Safety & Field Rules

Mandatory safety requirements, insurance validation, and visitor policies for Macon Aero Modelers.

Safety is the primary objective of Macon Aero Modelers. All members are expected to operate their aircraft in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, other pilots, and spectators.

The following rules are extracted directly from the Club Constitution and Bylaws.

Mandatory Requirements

AMA Membership

Proof of insurance is non-negotiable for flying at our field.

  • Requirement: All members must be a current member with the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).
  • Verification: You must be able to produce your AMA membership card upon request.
  • Scope: AMA membership is required for all fliers.

🚫 No Insurance, No Fly

Failure to maintain active AMA membership invalidates your permission to fly at the Tessentee Road field.

FAA Compliance

In addition to AMA rules, the club adheres to federal law.

  • It is recommended that members comply with current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and requirements for model aviation.

Visitor Policy

We welcome guest pilots to experience our flying site under specific conditions.

  • Frequency: A person may fly as a visitor up to three times in a calendar year without paying dues or fees.
  • Insurance: Visitors must provide proof of AMA membership to verify that they have insurance before flying.

Enforcement & Authority

The Safety Officer is the designated authority for interpreting and enforcing rules at the field.

Role of the Safety Officer

  • Authority: The Safety Officer works to enforce the rules and regulations of this Club and the AMA at all activities.
  • Fines: The Safety Officer has the authority to assess appropriate fines for repeated violations.
  • Resolution: Complaints or issues relating to safe flying operations should be brought directly to the Safety Officer for resolution.

⚠️ Disciplinary Action

Repeated violations of rules may be reported to the Board of Directors. Failure to observe club objectives and rules may result in disciplinary action or expulsion from membership.

AMA Safety Code

The Safety Officer is responsible for keeping up to date with all AMA safety rules. As a chartered AMA Gold Leader Club, we follow the Official AMA National Model Aircraft Safety Code.
