Macon Aero Modelers Safety News March 18, 2009

From the Safety Coordinator

Bill Duncan

            Safety, It's Everyone's Business

Allow me to introduce myself. At last December's (2008) Christmas party and general membership meeting, I was elected as the club's Safety Coordinator.

I know that I fill large shoes in that Greg Doster did a superb job in fostering the best interests of the members and promoting safe flying operations at OTX.

My background is 24 years primarily in Aircraft Maintenance and Aviation Management for the United States Air Force. Now, that doesn't make me an expert in safety of RC aircraft operations but it should help.

When an accident investigation board looks at what caused an aircraft accident they look at primary and secondary causes and identify the chain of events that led to the accident. They find that if one event or factor could have been changed, the accident might not have occurred.

As your Safety Coordinator I need your help if we are going to have a safe flying season for 2009. It's everyone's responsibility to be safe…if you see something wrong take action. If there are issues I need to be aware of, please let me know.

           Safety Coordinator,

           Bill Duncan
